Experimenting with various media, led me to a creative voice in oil painting. The colors are deep and expressive and the longer drying time allows me to study and reflect on a subject more intensively. For me, it’s also a good way to slow down in a fast-pace world. Viewing life as an exciting journey, I pick my subjects as little “souvenirs” along the way….a birds’ lost feather, a bouquet of wildflowers or a memorable sunrise. I try to acknowledge the beauty of the subject matter itself by using a detailed handwriting and a glazing technique. The glazes are transparent layers of oil paint on top of a monochrome underpainting. The light illuminating the painting goes through the transparent colors, reflects off the under-painting and comes back through the transparent layers, which creates a luminous and almost 3-dimensional effect. The use of this classic technique enables me to “translate” my observations of modern life and nature while keeping the tradition of glazing alive. Influenced by the way Dutch Masters from my native country used light, I greatly admire Sargent’s genius brushwork and the moody, spiritual atmospheres by George Innes. As a child, I was blessed with the encouragement of my parents. They realized that people are more likely to be most successful in those things they enjoy doing best. I loved drawing and painting and as I now strive to create artworks in my professional life, I will always be thankful for their support. I hope you will enjoy my impressions in oil as much as I’ve enjoyed creating them… | ||||
